Camilla Safety Oy is a Finnish company specialized in first aid, fire safety, and threat situation training for workplaces, with operations based on strong expertise and practical training. The company's mission is to improve people's readiness to act in emergencies and to promote a culture of safety in society. Engaging, hands-on training sessions are organized at Camilla Safety's own facilities in Turku and Pori, at client locations throughout Finland, and online, independent of time and place. Camilla Safety provides training in Finnish, Swedish, and English.
Responsibility has always been a core part of Camilla Safety's ethos, and in 2024 it was also officially incorporated into the company's strategy - Camilla Safety aims to be a pioneer and trendsetter in responsibility within its industry. The company also recognized the evolution of reporting requirements, which particularly affects Camilla Safety's large clients, some of which are already under the scope of the CSRD directive. Therefore, Camilla Safety decided to prepare an official sustainability report in accordance with the European sustainability reporting standards framework, the VSME framework.
“Our clients - especially the larger organizations - expect responsibility and sustainability reporting from their service providers. We wanted to proactively respond to this. Many large customers immediately gave a lot of praise for this”, comments Camilla Mäkinen, entrepreneur at Camilla Safety Oy.
For the tool to create the report, Camilla Safety chose Aila because it was specifically designed for sustainability reporting according to the VSME-standard for SMEs. The tool's clear structure and instructions were an invaluable help when preparing the company's first report. In addition to collecting data, compiling the report also involved learning new things and developing internal processes, and the information was gradually updated into Aila during the winter of 2025.
“For a small service company, gathering the information required by VSME was not particularly difficult, but it did take some time, especially when collecting data for the first time and from a financial year that had already ended. At the same time, it was really interesting and eye-opening, for example when we calculated the carbon footprint of traveling.”, entrepreneur Camilla Mäkinen says.
The final sustainability report was published in May 2025 and was first delivered directly to the company's largest customers. Even after this, the report did not just sit in a drawer. The information in the report is continuously used in customer communications and proposals, as well as in business development. New practices have already been created for updating the report, which facilitate the monitoring of information and assist in, among other things, emission reduction targets.
